Welcome

The Montpelier Historical Society was founded in 1990. Its goals are:

• to preserve and protect evidence of Montpelier’s history
• to provide leadership in local history education
• to identify and pursue opportunities for local research
• to serve as a resource for local historical concerns
• to provide a forum for public study and discussion of current issues which have a bearing on the city’s history

Many people tend to confuse the Montpelier Historical Society with the Vermont Historical Society. While we do collaborate with the VHS from time to time and have the utmost respect for and appreciation of that organization, we are a separate entity whose focus is on the history of Montpelier.
